Android Data Storage Location

When the device starts running out of space, you can move your score and audio files over to an SD card in one go.

On Android, you can pick one location for the large files: scores, audio, and annotations. The information the app manages — song titles, setlists, and the storage setting itself — always stays in the device's internal storage.

The choices are:

• Internal Storage — PagePilot's private area on the device. This is the default.
• SD Card — PagePilot's private area, created by Android on the card. You cannot pick an arbitrary shared folder.

You cannot split files between the two. Changing the location copies the scores, audio, annotations, and everything else across safely, as one batch.

Important Checks Before Changing the Location

Read the warning shown before you start.

• Create an App Data Backup first.
• Do not remove the SD card or power off the device while copying.
• PagePilot's normal features are unavailable while the selected card is disconnected.
• Formatting an SD card changes its filesystem UUID. Even the same physical card is then recognized as a different storage location, and PagePilot cannot automatically open the previous data.
• Removing PagePilot or clearing its app data in Android Settings may also delete PagePilot's private data on the SD card.
• An SD card is not a substitute for a backup.

How the Change Is Kept Safe

PagePilot leaves the original files where they are while it copies them to the new location. Once the copy is done it checks the number of files, their size, and their contents, and only then switches over. If anything fails along the way, the original location stays in use.

The app restarts after the switch. On startup it checks the new location once more, then deletes the old copy.

If “SD Card Not Found” Appears

Connect the registered card and select Try Again. PagePilot does not silently switch to internal storage when a different card is connected. For instructions based on each heading and available button, see When Android Shows the Storage Recovery Screen.
