When Android Shows the Storage Recovery Screen

This screen appears when your scores and audio can no longer be opened. Take a breath, and start by reading the heading at the very top of the screen. The same headings are listed on this page, word for word. Find the one that matches your screen and it tells you what to do next.

Which buttons appear depends on the situation. If an action is not on screen, that means PagePilot cannot do it safely right now.

If you need to keep the current data, do not start with Reset This Device's Data, clear the app's data in Android Settings, uninstall PagePilot, or format the SD card.

“SD Card Not Found”

PagePilot cannot access the SD card that stores its scores and audio.

  1. Insert the original SD card that was selected as PagePilot's storage location.
  2. Wait for Android to recognize the card.
  3. Select Try Again.

PagePilot does not switch automatically when you insert a different card. Even if its name looks similar, use the original registered card.

If the original card cannot be read, there is no backup, and you need to preserve the data, do not reset or format anything. Select Share diagnostics and contact support with the incident code shown on the screen.

“Storage access was interrupted”

PagePilot lost access to the selected storage while the app was running. It stopped using that storage to protect your data.

  1. Check whether the SD card was disconnected, then reconnect the original card.
  2. Wait for Android to recognize it.
  3. Select Restart PagePilot.

Do not repeatedly restart while the card connection remains unstable. Check the device and card first, and share diagnostics if the problem returns.

“Storage change needs attention”

Your data has been moved to the new storage location, but PagePilot could not finish cleaning up the previous location.

Select Try Again first. If the same screen keeps returning, use an option that is actually shown:

“PagePilot needs to repair its data”

PagePilot could not safely open the data managed on this device. The problem is not necessarily limited to the SD card.

  1. Select Try Again once.
  2. If the same screen returns and you have a backup, select Restore from Backup.
  3. If there is no backup, choose Reset This Device's Data only when losing the current device data is acceptable.

If you need the data and have no usable backup, do not reset. Share diagnostics instead.

“PagePilot could not start”

PagePilot could not safely complete startup. The cause may be outside the storage location itself.

Select Try Again first. If the same screen returns, select Share diagnostics. If the share sheet cannot open, copy the incident code at the bottom of the screen and give it to support.

“Recovery is complete”

The move, restore, or reset has finished. Select Restart PagePilot to continue.

If PagePilot cannot restart automatically, the completed data operation is still preserved. Fully close PagePilot, then open it again.

If Settings Shows “Delete old data on this storage?”

The selected SD card contains old PagePilot data left by an earlier storage change or local-data reset.

Deletion cannot be undone. PagePilot deletes only data it can identify as its own, but cancel if you are unsure whether the old data is needed.

If Settings Shows “This storage cannot be safely reused”

PagePilot has a record that old data exists, but it cannot safely identify which files belong to PagePilot. The app cannot delete or reuse the storage.

  1. If you need anything from the card, back up the entire card elsewhere.
  2. Format the card in Android Settings.
  3. In PagePilot's Data Storage Location, select the formatted card again.

PagePilot cannot recreate its ownership marker or overwrite existing data while this warning is shown.

Share Diagnostics and the Incident Code

Select Share diagnostics when you cannot determine the cause or the same screen keeps returning. If sharing fails, copy the incident code that remains on the screen.

The diagnostic report includes the startup stage and storage state needed for recovery. It does not include the complete SD-card identifier, absolute paths, or the names of your scores and audio files.
